The festive season is fast approaching! 34 days until Christmas...but who's counting? For those of you who are organized enough to be thinking about gifts, hats off! Conscious consumption is important to us and we love the generous spirit of Christmas - this list is all about gifts that give to the receiver, the community and the wider world. Click on the names in blue for website links.

Who else should be on our list? We'll be adding to this list throughout the festive season so get in to touch with us on social media (@journeykind) or email hello@journeykind.com.

These beautiful headphones provide a mind-altering sound experience (yes I could have just said music but it’s oh-so-much-more than that!). Made from wood and vegan leather, every purchase helps fund hearing restoration for those in need around the world. As a partner on the 'One For All' campaign for the sustainable development goals (SDGs), HERO NEW YORK dedicates 10% of its profit to solving the world's most pressing issues by 2030. We particularly love the 'vintage Americana' range focused on SDG 16, promoting peace & justice. 10% of profit goes to the Robert F.

Bike Project

This community of refugees, mechanics and volunteers receives donations of second-hand bikes, fixes them up at their workshop, and then donate them to asylum-seeking refugees, to enable them to move around the city and to learn new skills in the process. We have our eye on this vintage hybrid bike, grab it before we do! Lycra optional...

For the discerning mom (and/or mother-in-law)

Abury Collection

Moms and mother-in-laws are always hard to buy for. When I asked my mom what she wanted for Christmas, she said “I don’t need anything, buy yourself a gift with that money”. Wonderful sentiments but not helpful mom!! That’s where the Abury Collection comes in. It combines style, quality and morals to create beautiful classic gifts for the sophisticated woman, who seemingly has everything. Each product pays artisans a fair wage while contributing to the company’s educational foundation.

Their delicious hand-crafted chocolates won the great taste award this year, thanks to delightful and unique flavours such as rose and cardamom, and blackcurrant caramel. Yum!

For the foodie

The Natural Cook by Tom Hunt

Tom Hunt’s Poco in Broadway Market is one of those places I go back to again and again, despite the fact that it’s a two-hour train journey round-trip from my home. Call it nose-to-tail, root-to-fruit, farm-to-table, I just call it plain delicious. The ethics behind the cooking are the icing on the cake - with food waste and sourcing practices that are unrivalled by most London restaurants. Luckily Tom shares the secrets of his delicious cooking in this book. Surprise the chef in your family with this cookbook, guaranteed to inspire any cook to create delicious, earth-friendly plates.

Fat Macys
Fat Macy's showcases the culinary efforts of a group of young residents of the YMCA and provides a pathway for independent living by inviting them to organise, create and curate culinary pop-up events across London. Supper clubs include a three course meal curated, designed and cooked by our guest chefs alongside a drink on arrival. Come along to hear their stories, share their recipes and support them with their plans for the future. Fat Macy’s overcomes the cycle of homelessness by using the project’s profits to create a specified housing deposit scheme. With every pop-up event, each chef can make an independent and progressive step in saving securely for their future and building skills for independent living.

For the homebody

MJ London

Is there anything better than a rainy winter Sunday, wrapped up warm by the fire with a cup of tea, and a scented candle burning on the mantlepiece? Maybe a beach barbecue on a summer’s day is better. But that’s not viable for us Londoners anytime soon! So back to the fire it is….MJ’s candles are the perfect compliment to your Sunday bliss and will immediately transport you to a chalet in the Bavarian Alps. From packaging to glass, the candlemakers bring ethics into every stage of the process. It is made from 100% rainforest safe soya and the proceeds give back to a local charity.

For the jewellry lover

Bird + Stone
Bird + Stone was founded on the principle that jewelry can do good and in fact, improve the world. It empowers each consumer to be a "micro-philanthropist" - making meaningful change through the simple act of purchasing jewelry. Its mission is to inspire, educate, and most importantly help shape the dreams of deserving women who are aspiring to be independent, financially stable, and educated. By giving women opportunities in the developing world, it helps them pull themselves out of poverty. We love these African sun beads - a great complement to any outfit.

For the young reader

Wangari’s Trees of Peace by Jeanette Winter

S-hero Wangari Maathai is my idol - the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize and the most prominent African environmentalist, feminist, and political activist. Her small actions of planting trees and leading nonviolent protests inspired a movement for political, social, and environmental change in Kenya and the world. This book tells the story for children about how small acts by courageous people can inspire and create change. An inspirational bedtime tale for any age.
